Jan (J.A.A.) van de Ven
Founder / Attorney - Amsterdam

"Jan is a different kind of lawyer: he combines experience in the produce industry with excellent legal expertise"

Experienced lawyer & agribusiness professional

Before embarking on a career in law, Jan spent about a decade working in fruit exports, post-harvest and controlled atmosphere technology. He worked with exporters and importers in Europe, Chile, Peru, Mexico, the US and South Africa. Today, while working as a lawyer, this extensive experience in the fruit and vegetable industry enables him to work very effectively with his clients in the sector.

Jan’s clients don’t need to spend much time educating him on consignment deals and other peculiarities of the fruit industry. Instead, with Jan, clients can talk quickly, in-depth, about the real issues they are facing, and quickly determine the best course of action.

Education

Jan left college in 1993 with an undergraduate degree in International Agricultural Trade. In 2001 he obtained a law degree from Tilburg University to which he added an LL.M. in tax law in 2006. In 2015 he graduated from the University of Cambridge with a master’s degree in International Relations for which he wrote a dissertation on food security.

Jan has been practicing law since 2001 and is a member of the Amsterdam Bar Association, the International Law Association and the European Food Law Association. He is fluent in English, Spanish and his native Dutch, and he also speaks German.

A father of two, Jan is married and is training for his next marathon.
