Before embarking on a career in law, Jan spent about a decade working in fruit exports, post-harvest and controlled atmosphere technology. He worked with exporters and importers in Europe, Chile, Peru, Mexico, the US and South Africa. Today, while working as a lawyer, this extensive experience in the fruit and vegetable industry enables him to work very effectively with his clients in the sector.
Jan’s clients don’t need to spend much time educating him on consignment deals and other peculiarities of the fruit industry. Instead, with Jan, clients can talk quickly, in-depth, about the real issues they are facing, and quickly determine the best course of action.
Jan left college in 1993 with an undergraduate degree in International Agricultural Trade. In 2001 he obtained a law degree from Tilburg University to which he added an LL.M. in tax law in 2006. In 2015 he graduated from the University of Cambridge with a master’s degree in International Relations for which he wrote a dissertation on food security.
Jan has been practicing law since 2001 and is a member of the Amsterdam Bar Association, the International Law Association and the European Food Law Association. He is fluent in English, Spanish and his native Dutch, and he also speaks German.
A father of two, Jan is married and is training for his next marathon.

A lawyer and international consultant based in the city of Petrolina, north-east Brazil, Alberto Rodrigues has spent over 16 years working closely with Brazilian fresh produce exporters. Alberto has worked with fresh and processed fruits (juice industry) producers and exporters, and also with Fair Trade products exporters. He is an export consultant for Brazil’s Ministry of Development, Industry and International Trade. Alberto a member of the Brazil Bar Association in Petrolina.
Alberto has a Master's degree in Economics applied in International Relations and Trade from the Federal University of Pernambuco, with his dissertation about the Dispute Settlement System of the World Trade Organization and a study case of a commercial dispute between the European Union and Brazil involving EU Sugar subsides.
He graduated in the Law School of the State University of Bahia for which he wrote a monograph about the tax exemption through the international treaties, focusing specifically GATT/World Trade Organization. Alberto also graduated in International Relations and is currently pursuing a post-graduation specialization in Civil Procedure in the Bar Association Law School.
In his spare time Alberto likes to do running and he is learning to play guitar.
